Gorilla trekking is a once-in-a-lifetime experience that brings you face-to-face with mountain gorillas in their natural habitat.
Both Uganda and Rwanda offer exceptional gorilla trekking opportunities. In Uganda, Bwindi Impenetrable National Park is home to over half of the world's mountain gorilla population. Rwanda's Volcanoes National Park offers slightly easier terrain and shorter trekking times.
Physical fitness is important, as treks can last 2-8 hours through challenging terrain. You'll need to be able to walk for several hours at altitude, sometimes through dense forest and steep slopes.
What to pack: sturdy hiking boots, long pants, long-sleeved shirts, rain gear, insect repellent, and a good camera. Permits are required and should be booked well in advance.
Once you find the gorillas, you'll spend one hour observing them - an unforgettable experience that supports conservation efforts.
